Troubleshooting: Water Leaking at Spray Gun – Spray Wand Connection

August 1, 2022

Water leaking at gun - wand connection

If you have water leaking at the spray gun and spray wand, use the following steps to troubleshoot.

Release stored pressure. Before you begin, make sure the engine is off and you have pulled the trigger to release all stored pressure within the hose.

Never repair high-pressure hose. If the water was leaking from the high-pressure hose itself, you need to replace the hose. Never try to repair a high-pressure hose. Doing so can lead to personal injury or death.

Never repair a pressure washer spray gun. If the body of the gun is leaking, it will need to be replaced. There are no user-serviceable parts within the spray gun assembly.

Check the connection and o-rings. Try tightening the connector to see if this stops the leaking. If it does not, with the pressure bled off, unscrew the connector and focus on the o-rings. If they are not intact or appear to be damaged, replace the o-rings. If they appear to be in good condition, lubricate the o-rings with white lithium grease. After reconnecting the hose to the wand, pressurize as normal to make sure the leaking has been solved.
